What Virginia Law Allows
Home cultivation has been legal since July 2021. Virginia allows four plants per household (not per person), grown at your primary residence, out of public view and inaccessible to anyone under 21. Virginia also has a rule most states don’t: every plant must carry a legible tag with your name, driver’s license or ID number, and a note that it’s grown for personal use.
- Tag Your Plants: Virginia requires a name-and-ID tag on every plant; it takes two minutes and keeps your grow airtight.
- Four-Plant Strategy: with a household cap, verified female clones mean no wasted slots on males or weak phenos.
- Clean Start: every clone is HLVD-tested and pest-screened before it ships.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about buying and growing clones in Virginia.
How many plants can I grow in Virginia?
Four plants per household (not per person), at your primary residence, out of public view and away from anyone under 21. Each plant must be tagged with your name, ID number, and a personal-use note.
What is the plant-tagging rule?
Virginia requires every home-grown plant to carry a legible tag listing your name, your driver’s license or state ID number, and a statement that the plant is grown for personal use as authorized by law. A simple plant stake with a written label satisfies it.
What size are the clones?
Our clones arrive fully rooted and 8-12 inches tall. These are established, hardened-off plants ready to transplant into your medium of choice, not fresh cuttings.
Are these clones tested for Hop Latent Viroid (HLVD)?
Absolutely. We keep every mother plant on a strict lab-testing schedule and screen for HLVD, Russet Mites, and Spider Mites, so you receive a clean, verified start.

Timing Your Virginia Grow
Virginia spans zones 5b-8a. Tidewater and Richmond growers plant out from late April; Blue Ridge and Shenandoah growers wait for mid-May. Humid Augusts reward strains with airflow-friendly structure. Order 2-3 weeks ahead; clones ship the week after ordering.
Virginia Clone Arrival Guide
How to acclimatize your new plants to your local climate after shipping.
Read The 5-Step Acclimatization Protocol
1. The “Box Opening” Protocol
Dim the lights. Do not open the box under full-strength grow lights or direct sun. The plants have been in the dark for 24-48 hours, and sudden bright light causes stress.
2. Re-Hydrate the Root Zone
Dip the bottom of the plug in pH-balanced water (5.8-6.2 pH). You want the plug moist, not dripping wet, to help the roots recover from transit.
3. The Humidity Dome (Crucial)
Shipping stresses plants. Place clones in a tray with a humidity dome and aim for 70-75% RH inside for the first 24 hours to stabilize transpiration.
4. The “Hardening Off” Process
Slowly open vents over 3 days. If they pray (leaves pointing up) when the dome is off, they are ready for your main lights or outdoor hardening.
5. Trust But Verify
Always quarantine new arrivals for 5-7 days before introducing them to your main grow room or garden.
