Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) is the most damaging pathogen in modern cannabis. We test for it monthly. Most operations don’t test for it at all.
HLVd is a microscopic strand of infectious RNA — smaller than a virus, with no protein coat — that spreads silently through cuttings, pruning tools, and contaminated grow media. Once it’s in a mother plant, every cut taken off her carries it forward.
The plants don’t show obvious symptoms until late flower, when yields collapse by 30 to 50 percent, terpenes flatten, and trichome production tanks. By then it’s in your tools, your room, and every clone you’ve cut for the next run.

That’s what we do. Every mother plant in our nursery is screened monthly via PCR (polymerase chain reaction) — a lab test that detects HLVd RNA at extremely low concentrations, before any visible symptoms appear. Any mother that comes up positive is removed from production immediately and her room gets re-tested.
We also run an off-site quarantine for every new genetic intake, so an infected cut from outside the building never reaches our clean mothers in the first place.
